Finding/locating objects in the Knowledge Base
Because the Object Browser (containing both the Technical Browser and the Domain Browser) does not always contain all the objects currently present in the Knowledge Base (see Blank View for more information), a search using the Find object in Browser option will not always return all objects.
This option allows you to search the entire contents of the Knowledge Base instead of just the Object Browser:
- Select the Edit > Find Object in Knowledge Base option from the menu (you can also use the shortcut key: SHIFT+F).
- The Find dialog box will then be launched.
- Enter the string you want to search for (in Find what), or enter an object name, part of an object name or an object ID.
- Click Search to find an occurrence of the string/ID in the Analysis Service schema.
- The object containing the string/ID will be displayed in the right hand list.
Find dialog box
Find by | You can choose to search by object name or object ID (as saved in the CAST Analysis Service schema). By default, Name will be selected and therefore you should enter the name of the object you want to search for. If you prefer to search for an object based on its ID (as saved in the CAST Analysis Service schema) - for example there are multiple objects with the same name and you know the ID already - select the ID option and then enter the object's ID in the Find what field. |
Match Case | Select this option if you want to match the case of the string you enter in the search field. For instance, if you enter "SyS" and check the option, all instances of "SYS" will be ignored. If no objects can be found, a small dialog box will prompt you about this. |
Only objects beginning with string | Select this option if you want to find only those objects that begin with the search string you enter. For example if you enter "SYS" and select the option, all instances of type "CAST.SYS.AURORA" (for example) will be ignored and only those starting with "SYS" will be highlighted. |
Object list | The object list lists all objects that can be stored in the Knowledge Base. This acts as a filter for your search - by default all object types will be selected and thus included in your search. To exclude an object type from a search, clear the appropriate check box. |
Only in Object Browser | Selecting this option will force the search to be carried out only in the Object Browser - the contents of the Knowledge Base will be ignored. In effect this is the same as using the Finding/locating objects in the Object Browser window option. |
Automatically locate object in Browser | Selecting this option will cause the application to automatically highlight the object in the Object Browser when selected in the right-hand list. |
Click Cancel to abort the operation and return to the main window.
