Summary:

  • This section describes how to run the CAST AIP and CAST Storage Service installers installer, i.e. the installation of a dedicated workstation (known as the CAST Administration workstation) with all CAST AIP end-user applications and optionally the installation of the CAST Storage Service to host the Storage item ( CAST AIP databases). This document describes the installation of ALL CAST components (i.e. end-user applications and the CAST Storage Service) on one dedicated machine. Also see Overview of CAST Application Intelligence Platform for more information.
  • Note that existing releases of CAST AIP can co-exist with the current release of CAST AIP on the same machine, provided that the installation locations are different.

Installing a full baseline version (i.e. CAST 8.2.0)

Introduction

CAST AIP is shipped with two distinct installers as listed below (in previous releases, one installer was provided combining both CAST AIP and the CAST Storage Service 2):

Contains the standard end-user CAST AIP Applications such as:

Introduction

CAST AIP is shipped as an installer (setup). This contains the following:

  • CAST Management Studio
  • CAST Server Manager
  • CAST Transaction Configuration Center
  • CAST Architecture Checker
  • CAST Enlighten
  • CAST Update Tool (CUT)
  • UA Package Assistant

...

  • CAST AIP web applications (WARs)
  • etc.

CAST Storage Service (CSS) 2

If you decide to use the CAST Storage Service (a dedicated database system provided by CAST) to host the Storage components (the CAST schemas: Management Service, Analysis Service, Dashboard Service and Measurement Service) instead of using a commercially available (and supported) RDBMS (such as Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle Server), you will need to decide where to host this service at this point:

  • If the current machine meets necessary hardware pre-requisites and the deployment is small (see Deployment - sizing and security for more information), then you can choose to install the CAST Storage Service on the same dedicated machine as used for the CAST Management Studio.
  • In larger deployments, a dedicated physical machine for the Storage components is recommended.
Info
  • If CAST Storage Service 2 is already installed on the target machine from an existing release of CAST AIP, an error message will be displayed and the installer will terminate.
    • You have to remove the current installation via the Windows control panel in order to proceed. WARNING: this will erase the complete database content of the current installation.
  • Note that CAST Storage Service 2 is 64bit, therefore the machine that will host the CAST Storage Service, must run a 64bit version of a supported Operating System.
  • For using the CAST Application Analytics Dashboard, you MUST install the CAST Storage Service 2 - this is because the Measurement Service (additional database) required by the CAST Application Analytics Dashboard can ONLY be installed on CSS 2.
  • Notes about the legacy CAST Storage Service 1:
    • The legacy CAST Storage Service 1 and CAST Storage Service 2 can coexist on the same machine provided that you install them in separate folders and use different folders for the data (db_data). Both use different port numbers and different entries in the Windows services list.
    • In CAST AIP 8.x, the CAST Management Studio and other CAST end-user applications are not authorized to connect to the CAST Storage Service 1 (32bit version).
    • Please see the note in Technical Information about using pgAdmin III if you have CSS1 and CSS2 installed on the same machine.

Order of installation

This document describes the installation of ALL CAST components (i.e. the CAST Storage Service and end-user applications) on one dedicated machine without any existing CAST components installed on it. In this situation, CAST highly recommends that you install the CAST Storage Service to the workstation BEFORE you run the separate CAST AIP installer. This is so that a connection profile to the CAST Storage Service can be generated automatically by the CAST AIP installer.

If you are installing the CAST Storage Service to a dedicated machine, it does not matter which order you perform the installation of the CAST Storage Service and CAST AIP: no connection profile will be created since the CAST Storage Service will be located in a separate machine to CAST AIP.

  • Choose Run as Administrator in the contextual menu
  • When the installer loads, click Next and then read and accept the License Agreement
  • Choose a location for the CAST Storage Service - the setup will propose: %PROGRAMFILES%\CAST\CASTStorageService2
Info

Please note that – generally speaking – the installation path must only contain ASCII characters or characters of the language (or language group) of your Windows operating system. For more details, see Characters allowed in the installation path in Appendix - CAST Administration workstation installation and hardware requirements for more information.

  • Click Next (or Change to modify the installation location) and you will also be prompted to choose the location for the CAST Storage Service data and the port number for incoming connections to the CAST Storage Service. CAST recommends leaving both options to their defaults unless you know what you want to achieve:

CAST Storage Service and order of installation

This document describes the installation of CAST AIP on one dedicated workstation. If you are intending to use the CAST Storage Service for your CAST AIP storage requirements (see the DBMS section in Supported Platforms), AND you intend to run the CAST Storage Service on the same workstation as used for CAST AIP, then CAST highly recommends that you install the CAST Storage Service to the workstation BEFORE you run the CAST AIP installer. This is so that a connection profile to the CAST Storage Service (for use in CAST Server Manager for installing the Storage components (see Install CAST AIP schemas)) can be generated automatically by the CAST AIP installer - easing the onboarding and configuration process.

If you are installing the CAST Storage Service to a dedicated workstation, it does not matter which order you perform the installation of the CAST Storage Service and CAST AIP: no connection profile will be created since the CAST Storage Service will be located on a separate workstation to CAST AIP.

Info
If the CAST AIP setup detects the presence of a CAST Storage Service on the workstation (whether installed through the standalone installer or from a previous release of CAST AIP), then a connection profile to that CAST Storage Service instance will be created automatically and will be available for use in  CAST Server Manager.

Info

If you would like to modify the locations CAST applications use to store temporary and other required data, please see Appendix - Modifying default CAST data storage locations.

Which third-party items are installed with CAST AIP?

When you complete an installation using the CAST AIP setup, if they are not already installed and in addition to the CAST AIP components, the following third-party items will be installed to the target workstation:

  • Visual C++ 64-bit Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013
  • Visual C++ 32-bit Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013
  • Visual C++ 64-bit Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2010
  • .NET framework 4.5.2 (when required - if a more recent version is already present, then nothing is installed)

  • Microsoft Build Tools 2015 (BuildTools_Full.exe)

Automated workstation installation procedure

If you need to install the CAST Storage Service and/or CAST AIP on a large number of workstations (10+, 100+ PCs) in exactly the same way, you may consider the possibility of automating this process using the command-line parameters of the setup module. This will launch the setup installer unattended.
