Tools - ADPlus in the CRASH mode

This page describes how to use the AD Plus tool and how to analyze the AD crash dumps. Ad plus tool is used when CAST AIP analysis crashes without any error message either in CAST AIP log or CAST MS log.

Ad plus tool can be used to retrieve the AD crash dumps from which information about CAST AIP crash can be retrieved for analysis.

If the application to debug is in Java, use Tools - Java VisualVM instead.

Tools - Java VisualVM

Purpose

Java VisualVM allows to examine all Java applications running and detect memory leaks and CPU profiling.
It can display for each application:

the JVM used
the JVM arguments
all threads and their call stacks
CPU
memory
number of classes

Java VisualVM is the equivalent to ADPlus for Java.

Installing Java VisualVM

This tool is provided with the Java Development Kit (JDK)
In order to be able to monitor a JVM, the JDK version must equal or higher than the JVM version.
So to dump CAST-MS, JDK must be at least at version 6.0.15

Tools - Lister

Lister is useful to open all kind of text files. It is useful for voluminous files.

Setup

Install Gawktool in the computer. For instance in C:\GnuWin32.
Unzip the attach logfilter.zip, for instance c:\tools\logfilter
Update the c:\tools\logfilter\logFilterAnalyse.bat to setup the correct gawk installation folder.

Process

Copy the logfiles in the directory where logFilterAnalyse.bat is installed
Open a cmd in the gawk installed directory
Launch logfilteranalyse.bat
It produce in the same folder a file with extension .txt

Tools - RDA - Oracle Remote Diagnostic Agent

Purpose

The RDA is a set of command line diagnostic scripts that are executed by an engine.

The RDA is used to gather detailed information about an Oracle environment; the data gathered is in turn used to aid in problem diagnosis.

The output is also useful for seeing the overall system configuration.

Oracle Support encourages the use of RDA because it provides a comprehensive picture of the customer’s environment.

This can greatly reduce service request resolution time by minimizing the number of requests from Oracle Customer Support for more information.

So, with dynaTrace AJAX Edition:

Start dynaTrace AJAX Edition
Click on “Start Tracing”. IE starts.
Open the ADG URL and login
Navigate in ADG in IE
Switch to the dynaTrace window
In the left part of the window, navigate in the tree in browser > HTTP server name > Network.
Double click on “Network” . You get the list of the all the URLs loaded by IE.
Click on the line you are interested in and the request and response headers are displayed in the text field right under this window pane.

Tools - Classpath Checker

Purpose

The purpose of this tool is to help spot missing or wrongly located Jar files in a J2EE analysis, by finding inconsistencies between classpath configuration in Cast-MS and Jar files folders present on the disk.

It fetches from Management Base the list of folders declared as Archive Folders and the list of files declared as Archive Files, then checks if they exist on the disk, and checks if the folders contain some Jar files.

Tools - Dependency Injector

Purpose

The purpose of this tool is to help find missing dependencies in the configuration of a J2EE application, based on the warnings found in an analysis log file. It can store the results into a CSV file, or directly inject the missing dependencies into the management base.

In 7.3 and starting from 8.2.8, dependencies are not mandatory for links to be drawn by the J2EE analyser. So the tool is useful for versions betweeen 8.0/0 and 8.2.7 included.

Tools - Sos Reference Finder

Purpose

This is an alternate Reference Finder for use when the original Reference Finder on Dependencies is not working. It is not faster than the original Reference Finder, so it should be used only when the original Reference Finder does not give the expected results. It is based on a Python script (sos_reference_finder.py) and a SQL script (sos_reference_finder.sql). The Python script parses the source files and fills-in a temporary table (SUP_TMP_REF_FINDER), Then the SQL script must be used as a KB Update Tool in order to create the links. There is also a batch file (sos_reference_finder.bat) that allows to call the Python script from Cast-MS.

Tools - Dynamic to Static

Purpose

The purpose of this tool is to pre-process source files when the analyzer is not able to resolve variables with their values in order to create dynamic links. It is based on a Python script (dynamic_to_static.py).

There is also a batch file (dynamic_to_static.bat) that allows to call the Python script from Cast-MS

It can be added to Cast-MS as a Tool Before Analysis.

Tools - any_to_utf8

Purpose

The purpose of the any_to_utf8 tool is to mass convert files to UTF-8 format.

Some syntax errors can be due to characters, specific to a certain language. Editing each file is not an option. This tool allows you to convert every file in a given folder to UTF-8.
