tablesExtractionConverter is a tool to convert SAP tables files with all format to the new XML format**.**

Problem description

With tablesExtractionConverter.exe, for each processed table (files .def, .list, .links), columns are only described in the created xml file for the first table. All subsequent tables have NO columns.

Solution

The extractions with C:\programfiles\cast\cast_versiontablesExtractionConverter.exe contained a bug when the extraction was made on a unix machine and when the files where transfered on a windows machine not directly but through a tool which converted the file format. As the tables files contain references to table column as bytes in another file, the resulting file was corrupted.

Purpose

Introduction

This page presents the tool zOS Extraction Checker (zosXtrChecker). zosXtrChecker is a consistency checker used to check whether some inconsistencies were added by mistake in the zOS files resulting from the DB2 Server extraction.The tool gives as result the file and line where the error was found.

Objectives

The tool is designed in a way that when having the zOS files from customers, its usage avoids asking customer’s to process a new extraction of their Server because it helps pointing out the inconsistencies and therefore apply the correction in the files themselves.
However, issues might comes from the fact that customers have changed the extractor (which is a JCL text file that can be edited at will) and therefore, the only hint could be to provide customers with the latest version of the extractor so they can process a new extraction.

What does the generated statistics file during SAP extraction signify?

The statistics file is not used for analysis, it is like a log file. The number counts only files with ABAP extensions (not .xml or .list extensions).When you have a package PACK1 which contains a subpackage PACK2, you obtain 2 directories PACK1 and PACK2 (PACK2 is not inside PACK1) and visibly, the count of PACK1 files contains the number of ABAP files of both packages.

Purpose

If the version of extractor is not compatible with the Cast AIP version, then there are chances of errors in the analysis.

For example: if you use extractor of Cast version 7.3.8 with CAST AIP 7.3.5 then you will end up with many errors in the analysis, because the extractor can extract the source code which CAST AIP may not be able to handle.

Query for Extractor

When running the CAST Database extractor, you may come across the following message

"Some objects from 'Schema A' have been compiled during the extraction: initial 'Last Compilation Date' is '2018-01-08 13:36:57.0', new 'Last Compilation Date' is '2018-01-08 13:37:13.0'" 
 
If you need to check, what the objects that have been modified in this step are, you can run the below query.

Details

The extractor decides to use DBA_VIEWS or ALL_VIEWS according to these assumptions:

Extractor uses DBA_VIEWS while extraction if the user has ‘SELECT ANY DICTIONARY’ privilege granted to it.
This is confirmed by the following query:

select 1 from session_privs where privilege = 'SELECT ANY DICTIONARY';

If 1 is displayed, if you will use this user to extract some schemas you will have access to DBA_VIEWS,else go to step-2.

Source Extractors - SQL PLSQL - Information - How to modify server name without generating added or deleted DB objects for the PL-SQL offline analyzer

Purpose

With the PL/SQL offline analyzer (new), changing the server and/or instance from where the extraction is done leads to the change of all DB objects full name. As consequence, all DB objects will be seen as added/removed. To avoid this problem, please follow above steps before generating a new snapshot. The following are the ways to run DB extractor from Command Line

To have the GUI for the extractor:

Impact of the Problem

To modify an instance name of a PL/SQL extraction, you must use the Database Renaming tool as described in the documentation : DMT - Oracle > Dealing with Oracle Schemas that move from one Server to another or from one Instance to another

If you have modified the instance name manually, run the analysis and faced issues related to the instance name in the dashboard, modules or Enlighten, you have to follow the steps described in this pages.
