User Guide - Saving and accessing saved views
Summary: Saved views are stored in memory and can be recalled at a later date for further investigation. This pages explains how to work with them.
Saving a view
To save a view, use the Save a view option in the User Guide - GUI - Investigate panel:
It is possible to save a view from all scopes, including the User Guide - Application to Application dependencies scope.
Enter a name for the view when prompted and then click Save:
The view is then saved:
In Imaging ≥ 2.17, when you save a view, the two options STAY IN THIS VIEW and GO TO SAVED VIEW are displayed.
Selecting GO TO SAVED VIEW, displays the below screen with an option to Update the saved view.
Custom (available in ≥ 2.17.0-beta2)
Custom option is available only for Saved Views. When you visit a Saved View for the first time in the Graph Layout, ‘Custom’ option is displayed indicating that no layout is applied by default. Custom option is just to view and it cannot be applied.
Accessing a Saved view
The Saved views option lists all the views saved for the current application using the 
icon:
All available saved views are then displayed in the drop down list:

| When a view is saved, the view is saved with the username (who creates it) and the timestamp (the date and time when the view was created). Whenever the saved view is updated (either by the same user or another user) it is saved with username (who updates it) and the timestamp (the date and time when the view was updated). |
A Preferences option exists which enables you to toggle the method of accessing a saved view between the drop down list (default) and graph mode. See Saved view drill mode in Configuring display preferences.
Using a Saved view
A Saved view can be exploited just like any other standard Application view. In other words, you can drill down and right click objects/nodes just as you would with a standard view.
Enriching a Saved view
It is possible (starting v. 2.4.0-funcrel) to enrich a saved view by adding new nodes to the view resulting from a global search performed with the search option available in the toolbar. This feature is only available for Saved views:

Save/Save As options
If you make a change to a saved view (adding new nodes etc.) and you want to retain those changes, you can use the Save (save the view with the same name) and Save As (save the view with a new name - the old name is not retained) options:
Note that duplicate names for saved views are not permitted:
Manually grouped nodes
Nodes that have been manually grouped together using the Group selected nodes option will be retained as “grouped” when the view is saved:
It is also possible to view the items that form the grouped node, in the saved view itself: right click the Grouped Node and select Expand child:
There are certain limitations:
- A grouped node with duplicate name cannot be saved
- A grouped node cannot be grouped again
- A grouped node cannot be ungrouped in the saved view
Removing objects from a saved scope
Starting 2.5.x, it is possible to remove objects from a custom view using the right click Remove object(s) option (you can also use the DELETE key):

Searching for a saved view
You can use the following option to search for specific saved views:
A slider will appear on the right hand side that functions in a similar way to the global search:
| Regex pattern | Enabling this option allows you to input the search string using a Regular Expression. |
| Case sensitivity | Enable/disables case sensitive search (disabled by default). This applies to text strings entered in the search field. |
| Search by | Search by either Name or FullName. |
| Search by position | Select as appropriate to specify where in the string the match should occur. By default this is set to Start. |
Using the grouping features
Saved views contain the ability to use the grouping feature (see User Guide - GUI - Menus and Icons) to group multiple nodes into one single node using the left side bar menu:
Ungrouping also functions, even if the grouping was constructed before the view was saved - right click the grouped node and select Ungroup to split the grouped node into its constituent individual nodes:
In ≥ 2.19,
- Support provided for persisting the Hide/Show of graph options - ‘Isolated Nodes’, ‘External Libraries’ and ‘BelongTo links’ in saved view so the user has the flexibility to resume the investigation from a saved view. (Saved views implementation is changed (>2.18.2) to support graph modification features and missing References links. Old saved views might be partially impacted as the focus is given to improve the newly saved views and leverage the graph options in saved views.)
- Focus and Switch To List View options are supported in Saved View.
- The status of ‘Show Belongs To Links’, ‘Isolated Nodes’, and ‘External Libraries’ are persisted to resume investigation from a Saved view.
