This section provides a detailed description of the contents of the Source panel in the CAST Database Extractor.

This panel enables you to define the parameters for the extraction process, i.e. your source database server, how to connect to it, what to extract etc. Each item is explained in more detail below:

Vendor

Use this option to choose the target RDBMS vendor for the extraction process:

Oracle (default)
SQLServer (Microsoft SQL Server)
ASESybaseServer (Sybase ASE)
AzureSQL (Azure SQL - handled as Microsoft SQL Server)

Choosing an option will display configuration options specific to that Vendor.

JDBC Driver

Choose the JDBC Driver from the drop down list that is appropriate for the platform chosen above:

This section provides a detailed description of the contents of the Options panel in the CAST Database Extractor.

This panel enables you to define the various additional parameters for the extraction process:

Verbose

By default this option is set to TRUE. When set to true, the log (see Log panel) will contain information about the time taken to perform each specific action in milliseconds. This increases the size of the log, but is useful for troubleshooting.

Extraction File Path

This command specifies the location you would like the extractor to output the Extraction action results to.

This section provides a detailed description of the contents of the Target panel in the CAST Database Extractor.

This panel enables you to define the parameters for the delivery process, i.e. your target folder path:

Target Folder Path

This command specifies the location you would like the delivery action to output the results to.

By default:

the field will be pre-populated with %HOMEPATH%/deliveryResults - this means that the results of the delivery action will be stored in the %HOMEPATH%/deliveryResults folder (this resolves to the user's home directory).
the results are outputted in raw file format (i.e. are not zipped) - you can override this in the Expert tab by activating the Target Zip Packaging option.

If you want to store the results of the delivery process in a different place, enter a location manually or use the Browse button to locate a folder.

CAST Database Extractor - Log panel

This section provides a detailed description of the contents of the Log panel in the CAST Database Extractor.

The Log panel simply records all transaction and any error messages that are generated during an extraction or delivery:

Message display

Messages are always appended to the log panel, therefore you may need to clear the panel prior to running a new process. You can do so by:

Clicking Clear Log located on the toolbar
Selecting View > Clear Log located in the main menu

Log file

If you would like to have transaction and error messages additionally stored in a specific file on a local or network drive, you can do so by configuring the various fields in the Advanced panel.

This section provides a detailed description of the contents of the Script panel in the CAST Database Extractor.

The Script panel simply records the entire set of commands that will be used during the extraction and/or delivery processes.

Note that copying and pasting the script in this panel will NOT produce a functioning command line script for use in batch file.

Script display

The Script panel lists the commands that will be used during the extraction and/or delivery processes. The panel is read-only, but copy/paste will function for troubleshooting.
