CAST Architecture Checker - Open an existing model

To open an existing model that you have previously saved as a .CASTArchitect / .CASTRule file:

click the icon on the toolbar
or select the File > Open Model menu option

The Open dialog box will be displayed. Choose the model you require and clickOpen to open the model:

Note that by default the current user’s Documents folder will be opened the first time that the Open Model option is used. Subsequent uses of the Open Model option will open the folder where a .CASTArchitect/.CASTRule file was most recently selected and opened. This location is stored in the following file:

Introduction

Once you have created your initial model (see Define a new Architecture Model) you need to define your Layers, Sets and Dependencies - i.e. the actual structure (architecture) of the application you are targeting. This section explains the how to get started. See the Glossary for a description of Layers, Sets etc.

Create a Layer or Set

To create a new layer or set:

Right click in white space in the Main window (Model tab) and select the New layer or new set option as appropriate. A Properties dialog box will be displayed enabling you to enter a name for the layer/set. Ensure the Data set type drop down list is set correctly:

Introduction

After you have exported the Quality Rule Model as an extension, you can install the extension in your CAST AIP schemas so that the rule(s) it contains will be triggered automatically during a CAST analysis/snapshot process. The exported extension contains all the necessary files to enable you to install the extension.

Introduction

Each model (whether Architecture or Quality Rule) that is created in the CAST Architecture Checker will be visible in the results as a distinct Quality Rule. A Quality Rule has various accompanying values that determine how its results are viewed in the CAST dashboards. These values can be configured for the rules that result from your models created in the CAST Architecture Checker as follows:

CAST Architecture Checker - Working with Templates

The Templates feature in the CAST Architecture Checker allows you to define one or more templates (that can be freely distributed as Windows files) and which can be selected as a basis for a new Architecture Model.

In essence, templates function exactly like Architecture Models in that you can define layers and sets and can save the configuration to file. However, a template can be used as the starting point for a new Architecture Model (see Define a new Architecture Model).
