CAST Architecture Checker - Change application

Change application

As part of the connection process for working online you are prompted to select an application (as defined in the CAST Management Studio) - this is the application that you will check your architecture model against.

If you need to change the application, you can use this option.

The option can be accessed:

From the Action > Change application menu
Using the Toolbar icon

When selected, you will be prompted to select the new application (as defined in the CAST Management Studio) you want to check using the Architecture Checker:

You can use the Check all layers option to check the matching objects for all layers and sets.
If you are not working online you will be prompted to connect.
Before you can take advantage of the online operating mode you do need to have already successfully generated a snapshot of your application. See CAST Architecture Checker - Working online.

Check content

When working online, you can use this option to display the objects resulting from your analyses (as stored in the CAST Analysis Service) that match the selection criteria you have defined for the current layer or set. This option is similar to Compute all content, however Check content also gives you the chance to verify the source code of the objects that match your criteria.

If you are not working online, you will be prompted to connect.
Before you can take advantage of the online operating mode you do need to have already successfully generated a snapshot of your application. See CAST Architecture Checker - Working online.

When working online, you can use this option to check whether the source code of your application violates the Architecture Model you have defined with the CAST Architecture Checker. This is the primary goal of the application - i.e. to identify links between objects that may violate your architecture definition.

When working online, you can use this option to check whether any objects are assigned to more than one layer. This is useful in two ways:

When working online, you can use this option to display the objects resulting from your analyses (as stored in the CAST Analysis Service schema) that match the selection criteria you have defined for all your layers/sets.

The option can be accessed:

From the Action > Check all layers menu
Using the Toolbar icon

When selected, the CAST Architecture Checker will query the CAST Analysis Service schema (via the current connection to the CAST Management Service schema) and return all matching objects. Results are displayed with a numerical indication in the title bar of your layers and sets. This number refers to the number of objects that exactly match the selection criteria defined for your layer or set:

If you would like to see the source code that forms an object you can do so as follows:

Via the Check content option
Via the Check overlapping layers option

To do so:

Double click an object in the list of objects produced by the Check content / Check overlapping layers option
Select an object in the list of objects produced by the Check content / Check overlapping layers option and either select View source code button in the bottom right corner of the dialog box, or right click the object and select View source…
