CAST Architecture Checker - Removing a rule from an existing exported package

Summary: how to remove a Quality Rule Model as a single rule from an existing CAST AIP extension package.
- You cannot remove a rule from an existing CAST AIP extension package when this rule is the only rule in the extension package.
- If you open the model with the rule that has already been exported into the package and which contains the rule you want to remove, the export tool will detect the rule in the existing package and mark it with the status “UPDATING” preventing you from ticking the “Remove” check box
- If you open the model with the rule that has already been exported into the package but which does not contain the rule you want to remove, the rule in the current model will be updated in the existing package at the same time as the other rule is removed and perhaps you don’t want it to be updated
- If you open a model with a rule that does not exist in the exported package it will be added to the existing package at the same time as the other rule is removed and perhaps you don’t want it to be added
Step 1 - Open the correct model
You must NOT open the Quality Rule Model that contains the rule you want to remove from an existing exported package. Note however the “Limitations of the Remove action” above.
Step 2 - Start the export
To begin the export:
- click the
icon on the toolbar - or select the File > Export menu
The export dialog box will then be displayed:

Choose the existing extension package folder that you want to remove the rule from. The export dialog box will then be populated with the information from the existing extension export package. Note the contents of a Status column:
- You can only remove rules that are marked with the status “PUBLISHED”
- If the model you currently have open exists in the target package it will be “UPDATED”
- If the model you currently have open does not exist in the target package it will be “ADDED”
Tick the rule you want to remove and then click the Remove button:
The rule is removed - then click Export to update the target package - remember that the rule in the current Quality Rule Model will either be updated or added:
