Legacy ASP

A fix has been implemented to ensure that the default exclusion rule “Exclude ASP projects when a .NET web project also exists” (available in Console and in the legacy Delivery Manager Tool) functions correctly. In previous releases, occasionally this exclusion rule did not function correctly and did not exclude an ASP project although a corresponding .NET web project existed. This situation led to duplicated objects (ASP objects and equivalent .NET web objects) and thus, to an exaggerated Function Points count. This issue has now been fixed and ASP objects are no longer created when equivalent .NET web objects have been discovered. This leads to a drop in the number of objects, links, and Function Points in 8.3.45 when comparing analysis results with previous releases where the same source code was analyzed. In addition, the LOC (line of code) count per technology is also impacted: what was previously counted as ASP LOC is now counted as HTML5 LOC and the total number of lines of code can change slightly. There is also a possibility that quality rule violation counts may also be impacted.

Web JSP project discovery

The JEE Maven project discoverer has been updated to better detect Web JSP projects duplicated by Maven projects and where found are no longer taken into account: this prevents the creation of duplicate Analysis Units and may cause a change in analysis results of both identical Analysis Units were taken into account when using previous releases of AIP Core.

A bug introduced in AIP Core 8.3.38 has been fixed in this release. The bug caused implicit blackboxing to not function for .NET MVC applications and therefore less true violations were reported in AIP Core 8.3.38 in comparison to AIP Core 8.3.37 when analyzing the same source code. The fix ensures that the behaviour of AIP Core 8.3.39 now matches AIP Core 8.3.37 and as a result, more violations may be reported in comparison to AIP Core 8.3.38.

A bug has been discovered which is causing erroneous results for the rule “Avoid Artifacts with high Commented-out Code Lines/Code Lines ratio - 7126”: when there is no change in source code or configuration between successive analyses, the violation status for random objects will change (i.e. some objects that previously were not listed as violating the rule in the first analysis are now violating the rule in the second analysis). This bug has been fixed by altering the rule’s algorithm, therefore, after an upgrade to AIP Core 8.3.8 and the generation of a post-upgrade consistency snapshot on the same source code, results will differ for this rule.

Removal of “non-unified” Quality Rules

In CAST AIP 8.3.x, all Quality Rules flagged as “non-unified” have been removed from the standard CAST AIP Assessment Model delivered with CAST AIP 8.3.x. These Quality Rules were not triggered by default, had to be manually enabled using a SQL query and all had “unified” (i.e. multi technology) equivalent Quality Rules. The impacts of this change are listed below:
