AFP Calibration - Data Functions/Transactional Functions sub-nodes - Right hand panel

The Data Functions and Transactional Functions sub nodes (in the AFP Calibration node) enable you to:

view the default CAST results in the CAST Analysis Service (from the Snapshot generation) prior to any calibration taking place
calibrate the default results as required (for more information about calibration and how to do it, please see Calibrate):
- change the type (ILF, EIF, EI, EO, EQ) and the value of each Data Function or Transactional Function that has been “detected” via the pre-defined set(s) or the specific set(s) that you have created
- Delete, split or merge objects

The Application node represents an Application that is present in the CAST Management Service schema:

Snapshots table

This table shows all existing snapshots stored in the CAST Dashboard Service schemas managed by the CAST Management Service you are connected to; listing the following fields:

snapshot name
date it was calculated
the date chosen prior to generating the snapshot
number of Transactional Functions
number of Data Functions
Automatic Function Points
Enhancement Function Points / Automatic Enhancement Function Points

You can also use the Filter icon in each column heading to sort and filter according to content:

Built-in parameters node - Right hand panel

The Built-in parameters node is only available in the Data Entities node. This section lists:

Built-in types for data entities > a set of object types that are ALWAYS considered as Data Functions - this list is predefined by CAST
FK/PK analysis: table prefixes to exclude > this section allows you to define a list of prefixes that are used to name your SQL tables. Any prefix on the list will be excluded when the CAST Transaction Configuration Center algorithm attempts to detect data functions from SQL tables using Foreign key (FK) and Primary Key (PK) relationships
Names of tables to exclude (case insensitive regular expressions) > this section allows you to define criteria based on Regular Expressions that are used to match specific table names. All matching objects will not be considered Data Functions at all.

Enhancement node - AEP Details

As explained in Enhancement node - Right hand panel, the formula used to generate AEP information are complex and use a variety of intermediary metrics. To help understand how AEP is generated, a Display AEP Detail button is available and can display these intermediary metrics and formula in a text file:

When clicked, the CAST Transaction Configuration Center will generate a text file and open it in your default text editor. This text file explains how the AEP values were calculated:

Background

In previous versions of CAST AIP, when examining Function Point data between successive snapshots it became clear that a large quantity of Function Points were being flagged as “modified” with a discrepancy compared to the actual number of artifacts that were flagged as modified. As such, this was preventing users from gathering reliable information about what had really changed between two snapshots. The Enhancement feature is a direct response to this issue.

Free definition node - Right hand panel

The Free Definition node is available in the Data functions, Transaction end points, Transaction entry point nodes and Excluded Items nodes. It enables you to define more complex criteria for detecting objects that you want to include in the Function Point Calibration process via the creation of sets:

The System node is displayed when you have successfully connected to the CAST Management Service and you have at least one System in the CAST Management Studio:

The right hand panel displays:

All the Applications present in the System or Systems (if any - a System can still be displayed even if it has no child Applications)
If a connection is open to the CAST Analysis or Dashboard Service, the button Close connection / Close dashboard service connection will be visible allowing you to close the connection should you need to. Note that when a connection status is “opened”, unless a modification is made (for example adding a new data function, or creating a free definition set), then the Close connection / Close dashboard service connection button will be visible. The button will become invisible when a modification is made - a connection cannot be closed if unsaved changes remain.
When the fields Data functions and Transactions are displaying “not loaded”, this indicates that the CAST Transaction Configuration Center has not yet fetched the most recent data from the CAST Management Service. To do so, see the AFP Calibration node for more information.

The Transaction Configuration node displays two pieces of information:

Left hand list

On the left, it lists the specific configuration rules (or sets) created in the Entry Points, Data Entities, End points, Excluded Items - Right hand panel subnodes for source code objects that have already been analyzed and are present in the Analysis Service schema. These sets can be created manually or can be automatically loaded via the standard configuration files (see below). It also enables you to Generate sets for each of the subnodes using the four buttons.
