SRV - Component Reinstall

Component Reinstall

This option enables you to reinstall any server-side components already installed on the selected database/schema. The components will be reinstalled with the current versions of the components provided in the current release of CAST Server Manager. Note this option is only available if the Upgrade Status heading in the Server Browser contains Up To Date.

Notes

This option is only available for standalone CAST AIP schemas that are Up To Date and available under the Measurement Services and Unmanaged Services nodes - i.e. it is not available for Combined Installations.
This option is in fact a type of “refresh” operation for the selected server-side components - however, please note that this reinstall is only partial: some parts of the components you select will not be reinstalled.
If you are experiencing severe problems, you may need to carry out a fresh install of the server-side components instead of using this reinstall option. In this case, please contact CAST for more detailed advice - particularly if you have critical data stored in the CAST AIP schemas.
When re-installing in a CAST Storage Service (CSS) environment, the re-install process will drop any custom objects you may have created that directly or indirectly use any default Analysis/Dashboard/Management Service objects. As such, if you need to retain these custom objects, please ensure that your backup is up-to-date before carrying out the re-install.
You can also use the button located on the toolbar or the right click shortcut menu to access the option.

Component Uninstall

This option enables you to:

Uninstall (i.e. delete) a combined installation (i.e. a triplet of CAST AIP schemas) in one go
Uninstall (i.e. delete) any standalone CAST AIP schema individually

To access the option:

Select the CAST AIP combined installation/standalone schema you want to uninstall.
Select Database/Schema Installation > Component Uninstall from the menu bar.
A dialog box displaying a summary of the proposed operation will then be displayed:

Database/Schema Installation

This option is the starting point for all new CAST AIP schema installation operations. If you want to:

create a new Combined Installation (Analysis, Dashboard and Management Service in one go)
create a new Analysis Service
create a new Dashboard Service
create a new Management Service
create a new Measurement Service (CAST Storage Service only)

…then this is the option you require. You can either use an existing database/schema for your CAST AIP database/schema or create a new database/schema on the host server.

Diagnostic Report (Troubleshooting)

This option will display a dialog box containing detailed information about the server you are connected to, how you are connected, the contents of your databases, tablespace used and allowed etc…

All this can help you pinpoint a particular problem you may be having, perhaps with connection, or with tablespace sizes for example.

To access the option:

Select the database/schema for which you want to display a Diagnostic Report:
Click Database/Schema Installation > Troubleshooting > Diagnostic Report

The following diagnostic report will then be displayed:

Load MetaModel

This option enables you to import a validated language package into the CAST Analysis Service for use with the CAST Universal Analyzer. A language package consists of the following items (for example, for PHP):

Directory name > PHP
MetaModel name > PHPMetaModel.xml
LanguagePattern name > PHPLanguagePattern.xml

When imported into the Analysis Service, the language can be analyzed in the CAST Universal Analyzer:

Loading the MetaModel

Make sure your language package has been validated and saved using the UA Assistant
Select the database/schema that hosts the Analysis Service
On the toolbar, select Database/Schema Installation > Load MetaModel > From Disk
CAST Server Manager will then import your language package automatically
When completed, the Analysis Service will be updated with the new language package and you can use the Universal Analyzer to analyze your new language (it will be available in the Language Selection page)

Manage Extensions

CAST provides a range of extensions to CAST AIP to provide support for a wide range of technologies, both in terms of analysis and also in terms of source code extraction and discovery. These extensions have a release life cycle that is different to the CAST AIP life cycle, in other words new releases of extensions can be made public at any time.

The Manage Extensions interface in CAST Server Manager allows you to:

Remove Locks (Troubleshooting)

This option enables you to remove any database locks created by CAST AIP applications so that only one process can be carried out at any one time.

In general, the database locks created by CAST AIP applications are removed after the accompanying process has successfully completed or when the application is closed. However, locks may sometimes remain in place following an application error or if the connection to the database server is lost. This option therefore enables you to clear these locks without having to restart the database server.

Upgrade Installation

This option enables you to:

Upgrade an existing out-of-date combined installation (i.e. a triplet of CAST AIP schemas) to the current release of CAST AIP
Upgrade any existing out-of-date standalone CAST AIP schema to the current release of CAST AIP

Notes

You should read the CAST Upgrade Guide available on doc.castsoftware.com BEFORE you use this option!
The Upgrade Status heading in the Server Browser must contain Upgrades Available for the combined installation or the standalone CAST AIP schema before you can use this option.

When upgrading items in a CAST Storage Service (CSS) environment, the update process will drop any custom objects you may have created that directly or indirectly use any default Analysis/Dashboard/Management Service objects. As such, if you need to retain these custom objects, please ensure that your backup is up-to-date before applying the update.
When upgrading an existing out-of-date combined installation (i.e. a triplet of CAST AIP schemas) a check will be performed to ensure that an upgrade is possible. The following is checked - if any of these checks fail, an upgrade is not possible:
- That the “source” version can be upgraded
- That a version.xml file exists at the root of the Delivery folder configured for the combined installation
- That at least one Application exists in the combined installation

Upgrade an existing out-of-date combined installation

Select the combined installation you want to upgrade in the left hand panel inn the Combined Installation (Out-of-date) node.
