Launching a Report with Diagnostic

Please note that this feature is a legacy feature and is maintained only for compatibility with previous CAST versions. CAST now provides the CAST Health and Engineering Dashboards to help enforce rules and standards in an organization. Please contact CAST for more information about this.

To launch a Report with Diagnostic:

You can click Build a Report located on the menu bar and then select Report with Diagnostic… from the drop down menu.
You can use the button located on the toolbar.

The Diagnostics Wizard will then be launched, starting with Select the Diagnostic.

This page enables you to define various options for the report. These concern the insertion of a user defined style sheet to determine what the resulting report will look like, various save options and the inclusion of a header/footer.

Populate the Diagnostic

This wizard screen enables you to select the diagnostic you require for the report. The diagnostics are designed to test your code for various rules - such as whether coding standards have been correctly applied.

Select the Diagnostic

This first wizard screen enables you to choose the type of diagnostic you want to run.

Run a one-shot analysis > Select this option if you want to run a simple diagnostic report.
Create a new diagnostic > Select this option if you want to create a new diagnostic report. Choose a name for the report and enter it into the first text box. Also enter a description if you require. This diagnostic will then be saved in the Knowledge Base.
Delete an existing diagnostic > Select this option if you want to delete an existing diagnostic. Select the diagnostic from the list below and click Next. The diagnostic will then be removed from the Knowledge Base and will no longer be accessible. You will remain on the initial “Select the Diagnostic” wizard screen.
Use an existing diagnostic > Select this option if you want to re-run a diagnostic that you have already used. Select the diagnostic from the list below.

Once satisfied with your selections, click <Back to return to the previous step, click Next> to move on to the next step, or Cancel to abort the process.

What is a Report with Diagnostic?

The Diagnostic Wizard consists of a set of diagnostics (Reports) adapted specifically to Java, VB, .NET and Oracle Forms that can be run to automatically check the respect of coding standards and enforcements for code performance and maintainability. Each diagnostic is highly customizable to fit specific technical environments.

This wizard can help you to enforce performance throughout the project development cycle and enable you to avoid having to detect application defects late into the project - when correction requires a large amount of work.
