Launching a Report on Specific Objects

There are several ways to launch the Report Wizard:

You can click Build a Report located on the menu bar and then select On Specific Objects… from the drop down menu.
You can use the shortcut key - CTRL+Y
You can use the button located on the toolbar.
You can launch it from the Report Templates Management dialog box, by clicking the Wizard button.

In all cases, the Report Wizard will be launched, starting with the Object Selection page.

Launching a Report on View

To launch the Report on a View:

you can click Build a Report located on the menu bar and then select On a View… from the drop down menu.
You can use the button located on the toolbar.

The Report on a View Wizard will then be launched, starting with the Model Selection page.

Using the Wizard

Navigating through the steps in the wizard is achieved using the Back and Next buttons. At any time, remaining steps can be skipped using the Finish button which will then take you directly to the Report page (where all settings are summarized). In this case certain steps will be skipped. This feature should only be used by experienced users.

To launch a Report with Predefined:

You can click Build a Report located on the menu bar and then select With Predefined… from the drop down menu as shown on the right.
You can use the button located on the toolbar.

The Report with Predefined will then be launched, starting with the Template Selection page.

Using the Wizard

Navigating through the steps in the wizard is achieved using the Back and Next buttons. On all pages, the Cancel button aborts the configuration without carrying out any modifications.

Model Selection (on a View)

This initial step enables you to select a Graphical View that you have already saved in CAST Enlighten - this view will then be used as the basis for the report.

There are two sections:

Left hand section

This section contains a list of the Graphical Views (or Models) that you have already saved using CAST Enlighten and which are thus stored in the Knowledge Base. The information displayed in this list is gathered automatically from the Knowledge Base.

Object Selection (on Specific Objects)

This step is used to select objects stored in the Knowledge Base that will be incorporated into the Report.

Notes

Please note that this report only works with a few selected objects. Selecting an entire application could cause the authorized memory limit for program execution memory to be exceeded. In this case, an “Out of memory” message will be displayed, causing the application to become unstable.

Options (with Predefined)

This page enables you to define various options for the report. These concern the insertion of a user defined style sheet to determine what the resulting report will look like, various save options and the inclusion of a header/footer.

This wizard step is divided in to various sections:

This allows you to specify a Cascading Style Sheet to govern the "look" of your report.

By default, a CAST style sheet will be used.

What to do next…

Once the settings have been reviewed and you are satisfied, click Finish to start generating the report.

If you want to make any amendments, click <Back until you reach the required Step, make your changes and then return to the Final Step again.

Split report in multiple files

This option will save the Report as separate files. Each object that you have chosen to include in the report will have its own specific file with all the information you requested. A “parent” file will also be created, which will display the links to the various object reports.

Template Selection (with Predefined)

This page enables you to select the template you want to generate. This wizard step is similar to the Template zone in the Report Templates Management dialog box.

There are three distinct sections in this wizard step:


Available Templates	This section lists all the templates that are available for use. If this is the first time you have used the wizard, and there are no Templates listed, you need to add some from file in the Template zone in the Report Templates Management dialog box. Select the Template you want to generate in this section.
Template File Path	This text field displays where the template is located on your PC.
Template File Description	This text field displays a short description of what the template actually does.

Save Options (on Specific Objects)

This wizard page enables you to select where and how you want to save the Report. Essentially, there are two options:

you can save the Report as a Template (see Template below)
you can save it as an HTML or XML file (see HTML Report File below).

Template

This section enables you to save the Report as a Template (or .HSQ file). This basically means that the "code" needed to generate the Report is saved, but not the results.

What is a Report On View?

This application offers you the ability to create a Report on a View. A Report on a View differs from a standard report in that instead of providing information on an object or group of objects stored in the Knowledge Base, it will generate a report on a Graphical View that you have already created and saved (using CAST Enlighten) and the objects within it.

What is a Report with Predefined?

A Report with Predefined is a basic report derived from specific templates stored on your hard drive. These templates can either be those shipped with CAST products (located in the HSQ folder) or those that you have created yourself using the Report Templates Management dialog box.

It is not possible to select specific objects for inclusion in the report, instead the selected template determines which objects will be included. For example, you may select a template that creates a report on all PowerBuilder objects stored in the Knowledge Base.

This step enables you to select which templates you want to assign to the objects selected in the Object Selection step.

What are Templates?

Templates define what the wizard will actually take into account when the reports are generated. The application has various pre-defined templates that will automatically be assigned to the different objects you have selected for the report. You can create new and manage existing templates using the Report Templates Management dialog box.
