Associating objects to Libraries

When you first place an object in the Graphical View it will not be associated to any Libraries.

To associate it to a Library you have just created:

Right click the object(s) you want to assign in the Technical Browser.
Select Send to > Library in the shortcut menu.
Now choose the Library that you want to associate your object to.
The object will then be automatically associated to the selected Library.

Creating Libraries

To create a Library:

In the Library window right click to launch the shortcut menu.
Select Create Library…
A new library will be created called “Library#0”, you can rename it immediately.

Notes

You can also use the button in the Library window to create a new Library.
You can also create a new Library from the shortcut menu: right click an object in the Graphical View, select Send to > Library > New Library.
Please make sure you update your Library Links if you are frequently creating new Libraries - see Updating Library information.

Dropping Libraries

To drop a Library you have created:

Right-click the Library you want to drop in the Library window.
Select Drop Library… from the shortcut menu.

Notes

Any objects that have been associated to a library that you drop will no longer belong to any Library and will NOT be removed from the Graphical View.
You can also use the button in the Library window to drop a selected Library.
Please make sure you update your Library Links if you drop any existing Libraries - see Updating Library information.

Removing objects from Libraries

To remove an object from a Library:

Right click the object(s) you want to remove in the Technical Browser or in the Graphical View.
Select Remove from > Library in the shortcut menu
Now choose the Library that you want to remove your objects from
The object will then be automatically removed from the selected library and will return to the default object color.

Notes

You can also remove objects using Object > Remove from > Library > **[Library Name]**located on the toolbar.
Note that removing an object from a Library will also cause all of the object’s child objects to be removed from the Library (if any exist).
Please make sure you update your Library Links if you remove any objects from your existing Libraries - see Updating Library information.

Renaming Libraries

To rename a Library you have created:

Double-click the Library you want to rename in the Library window.
Change the highlighted Library name as appropriate.

Notes

You can rename Libraries immediately after their creation.

Updating Library information

If you have created Libraries and then re-run existing jobs that may update the objects in these Libraries or potentially add new objects to a parent object in these Libraries, then the following information will be of use:

Addition/Removal of an object into a parent structure

If the re-run of the job causes a new object to be added to the Knowledge Base and the new object’s parent object is associated with a Library or Libraries, the new object will be automatically added to the same Library or Libraries.
If the re-run of the job causes an object to be dropped from the Knowledge Base, the object will also be automatically dropped from the Libraries to which it is associated.

Link updates

The update of Library links (i.e. links from or to Libraries) is not carried out automatically following the re-run of a job. You will need to manually run the Update Library Links option in CAST Analysis Manager or create an Update Library Links job that can be run on completion of other jobs to do so (see the on-line Help for CAST Analysis Manager for more information).

Using Libraries

Once you have created a library and associated an object (or objects) to that Library you can begin to work with it.

To get an idea how Libraries work, follow the simple instructions below:

C reate a new Library.
A ssociate an object to that Library (any object will do).
Place the same object in the Graphical View.
In the Library window select the Library to activate it (a check mark will appear next to the Library).
A message will be displayed asking if you want to replace your technical objects with the selected library, click Yes.
Your object will then be replaced by the Library in the Graphical View.
Any objects that you place in the Graphical View that have a link to (whether calling or called) to the object associated to the Library will be linked to the Library with an Access (A) type link.

Viewing library properties

To view the properties of a Library:

Right click the Library in the Library window.
Select Properties from the shortcut menu.

The Property window will then display an HTML based property report about the selected Library. This includes information about the objects that are associated with the Library.

Notes

You can also use the F12 key to view the properties of a selected Library.

What are Libraires?

Libraries allow you to associate objects and components stored in the Knowledge Base to a specific library - the library can then be added to the Graphical View in place of its associated objects (the associated objects will be removed from the Graphical View). An Access (A) link type will be drawn from any objects present in the Graphical View (that have a physical link to any of the objects associated with the library) to the actual library.
