Associating objects to Functional Domains

When you first place an object in the Graphical View it will not be associated to any Functional Domains.

To associate it to a Functional Domain you have just created:

Right click the object(s) you want to assign in the Technical Browser or in the Graphical View.
Select Send to > Domain in the shortcut menu
The Domain Manager will then launch - select the domain and click OK.
The object will then be automatically associated to the selected domain.

Changing a domain color

By default, objects associated to active domains (Functional Domains that have been selected in the Domain window) will be displayed in a specific color to help distinguish them in the Technical Browser and the Graphical View.

By default, all domains use red to distinguish themselves. However if you have several Functional Domains, this can be confusing. To counter this, you can change the default color used for each domain:

Creating Functional Domains

To create a Functional Domain:

In the Domain window, right click to launch the shortcut menu.
Select Create Domain…
A new domain will be created called “Domain1”, you can rename it immediately.

Notes

If this is the first domain you have created, it will be placed under the “Default Domain”.
Sub domains can be created by selecting an existing domain prior to right clicking to launch the shortcut menu.
You can also use the Domain Manager and the Domain window to create domains.

Domain Manager

The Domain Manager is an extension of the Domain window. It enables you to create, drop and rename Functional Domains and is also used when associating objects to Functional Domains. It also displays your existing Functional Domains.

To launch the Domain Manager:

Click Tools > Domain Manager located on the toolbar
The Domain Manager will launch

The Domain Manager is self-explanatory. All existing Functional Domains are displayed in tree form. Use the Create, Drop or Rename buttons to work with your Functional Domains.

Dropping Functional Domains

To drop a Functional Domain you have created:

Right-click the Functional Domain you want to drop in the Domain window.
Select Drop Domain from the shortcut menu.

Notes

Any objects that have been associated to a domain that you drop will no longer belong to any domain and will NOT be removed from the Graphical View. Objects will also revert to the standard object color.
You can also drop Domains in the Domain Manager.
You cannot drop the default “Default Domain”.

Removing objects from Functional Domains

To remove an object from a Functional Domain:

Right click the object(s) you want to remove in the Technical Browser or in the Graphical View.
Select Remove from > Domain in the shortcut menu
The Domain Manager will then launch - select the domain and click OK.
The object will then be automatically removed from the selected domain and will return to the default object color.

Renaming Functional Domains

To rename a Functional Domain you have created:

Right-click the Domain you want to rename in the Domain window.
Select Rename Domain from the shortcut menu.
Change the highlighted Domain name as appropriate.

Notes

You can rename Domains in the Domain Manager.
You can rename Domains immediately after their creation.
You cannot rename the default “Default Domain”

Viewing Domain properties

To view the properties of a Functional Domain:

Right click the domain in the Domain window.
Select Properties from the shortcut menu.

The Property window will then display an HTML based property report about the selected Functional Domain. This includes information about the objects that are associated with the domain.

Notes

You can also use the F12 key to view the properties of a selected Functional Domain.
