Connection

Enlighten provides a graphical representation of the contents of the Knowledge Base. Your Knowledge Base will be installed on any supported CAST Storage Service, Microsoft or Oracle server (please refer to the Release Notes for more information on supported versions).
You therefore need to connect to the server that contains your Knowledge Base using a login name and password that have sufficient permissions to access it. Your CAST administrator will be able to provide you with an appropriate Knowledge Base login name (each user name needs to be specified in the Knowledge Base before a user can gain access - except in a CAST Storage Service environment)).

Existing Connections dialog box

This dialog box displays all the server connections that are open and any views/models that are open using that connection. It also enables you to use an existing connection or to open a new connection.

To access it:

Select the Connection option from the File menu located on the menu bar


New	Clicking New will launch the Open Profile Connection dialog box. Use this to select the Connection Profile in which the server you want to establish a concurrent connection with is defined.
Delete	Delete enables you to close a connection to a server that you no longer require. Select the server from the list and click Del.
Use	Enables you to use another connection (if more than one is available). Select a connection in the dialog box before clicking the Use button.
Close	This button closes the dialog box.

This dialog box can be launched from the Help menu located on the menu by selecting the Connection Layer Information option. It displays various information regarding the different Connectivity Layers on your workstation.

These layers are used by CAST Products to connect to the various servers accessible from your workstation.

Knowledge Base connection

During the CAST server side installation process a CAST Knowledge Base will be installed on your chosen server. The Knowledge Base will contain the results of analyses carried out with CAST Analysis Manager.
The Knowledge Base is a standard schema/database created on an SQL server. You can choose to install it on any server of your choice (i.e.: development server on its own dedicated server or use the CAST Storage Service - recommended). If you do decide to install it on a dedicated server, it is still possible to analyze objects on other servers.
When you connect with Enlighten to the server containing the Knowledge Base using a connection profile, the name of the Knowledge Base will be declared in the profile and automatically accessed (providing your username and login are declared and have sufficient access rights).
