Code Viewer (Options)

The Code Viewer also provides various other options designed to make navigating around your code much easier:

Find

This option enables you to search for any word or phrases in the displayed code:

Right click anywhere in the Code Viewer to launch the shortcut menu
select Find
or use the shortcut key: CTRL+F

This will launch a small dialog box in which you should enter the word or phrase you want to search for:

Viewing a link’s code

As well as viewing a selected object’s code, you can also view the section of code that causes a link to be defined between two objects.

To view this code:

Right click any link (except Escalated Links and Belongs To links) in the Graphical View
Select Code Viewer from the shortcut menu

The code of the calling object that generates the link will then be displayed in the Code Viewer. The cursor will be automatically positioned on the section of code that generates the link and the code itself will be displayed in bold and underlined.

Viewing a sub object’s code

Some applications contain sub objects managed by a parent object (methods/constructors etc.). This is the case for the Java Class Author in the following example:

When you select a sub object and want to view its code, the Code Viewer will display the parent object’s code and mark (in bold) the section that refers to the sub object.

In addition, the Code Viewer will automatically display the section of code required - there’s no need to scroll to the section manually.

Viewing objects defined in code

Any objects names defined in the code of another object that is being displayed in the Code Viewer will be underlined.

These objects can be either:

placed in the Graphical View (if not already displayed there)
or accessed with the Code Viewer and displayed in the Code Viewer window in a new tab

To place the object in the Graphical View

Highlight the object name in the Code Viewer
Right click to launch the shortcut menu
Select the Send to [model name] option, then the object name as shown in the image below:
