Add Linked Objects dialog box

The Add Linked Objects dialog box helps to narrow down the type of dependent objects that you want to add to the view. In essence, it enables you to create a filter to reduce search time and increase performance by excluding from or including in certain items.

Profile

This option enables you to load a pre-defined filter profile. The idea behind this function is to let you save filter profiles that you use often, thus allowing you to avoid entering the same filter parameters each time you add linked objects to your Graphical View. For example, you could save a profile that displays only objects that are of type Table, and Call your object or objects.

If you want to create a new filter profile, you need to use the Profile Manager, this cannot be done from the Add Linked Objects dialog box.

How to Add Linked Objects

Essentially there are three steps to the operation:

choose your Filter parameters,
preview the objects
select a destination

First, select the filter parameters in the Selection section of the Add Linked Objects dialog box, or alternatively if you have a pre-defined filter profile, you can select it from the Profiles section by clicking the Load button.

Then once you are satisfied with the filter parameters, click the Preview button located in the bottom right-hand corner of the dialog box and all the objects that conform to your chosen filter parameters and which are linked to your initial selected object or objects will be displayed in the View result as section, as shown below.

Preview Linked Objects

This option provides a rapid and simple snapshot of an object’s dependent objects. All linked objects currently displayed in the Object Browser window are identified and added to the Impact window.

To launch this option:

Select an object (or objects) in the Graphical View.
Right click the object to launch the shortcut menu - select Preview Linked Object
Or select Explore > Preview Linked Object
Or use the shortcut key F10

A search will then be carried out to identify all the objects linked to your selected object (or objects). All objects currently displayed in the Technical Browser and that match the Preview Linked Object filter will then be displayed in the Impact window:

What is the Add Linked Objects function?

The Add Linked Objects function enables you to place objects in the Graphical View which have a link (respecting the appropriate filter parameters you have chosen), to the object or objects you select in the view.

In this way you can rapidly identify what other objects would be affected if you were to modify an object in your analyzed project.

The Add Linked Objects function allows users to avoid having to search through thousands of lines of code to identify the objects that are linked to the current object.
