Introduction

Model Templates are in essence Architecture/Quality Rule models that can be used as a basis for building new models - i.e. they can facilitate the creation of new Architecture Models or new Quality Rule models:

Some templates are supplied with Console (Product templates)

Templates can be created manually from existing models or templates (User Defined templates)

Available options

The Templates section is hidden by default. Click the Show Templates button in the Architecture Studio to display it:

AIP Console - Architecture Studio - Existing Models

Info

Note that when running Console in CAST Imaging mode (i.e. using the dedicated AIP Core for CAST Imaging) the Quality Rule Models tab is not available.

Introduction

This page explains the creation of a hypothetical Quality Rule model (see AIP Console - Architecture Studio for more information about the different models available) to check for a specific situation. This example will produce a Quality Rule model that tests whether any Java Constructors in your Application directly access Tables in your database. This example assumes that a front end Java application and a back end database have already been analyzed. This is simply an example to show how Quality Rule models function.

AIP Console - Architecture Studio - Publishing models

Info

When running Console in CAST Imaging mode (i.e. using the dedicated AIP Core for CAST Imaging) the Quality Rule Models tab is not available.

Publishing Architecture Checker models is available in ≥ 2.4.x.

Introduction

Models (both Architecture Checkerand Quality Rule models) must now be published as a “custom extension” in order to be made available for all Applications managed in Console. The custom extension can then be included in an analysis and the “rules” in the extension (i.e. the model) will be checked during the next analysis (results are made available in the CAST Dashboards like for standard CAST rules). This page explains how to publish models as an extension and re-use them in an analysis.

AIP Console - Architecture Studio - Library Components

Introduction

Software architecture is becoming more and more complex and can involve various components and patterns. The library provides a means to store frequently used Layers and Sets that can be inserted (with their definition) into Architecture Models/Quality Models or Templates, so that you do not need to define the same Sets and Layers again and again. Take the following example:

Any Layer or Set that exists in an Architecture Model/Quality Model or in a Template can be saved and stored in the Library.

When subsequently building a new Architecture Model/Quality Model (either to use in an analysis/snapshot or as a basis for a template), Layers and Sets stored in the Library can be re-used therefore reducing the time needed to build the Model.

Therefore, like Architecture/Quality Templates, they can facilitate the creation of Architecture Models/Quality Models:
