*Purpose
This page is a guide to troubleshoot the problems you may encounter while using Server Manager and its features to Update Install or reinstall databases.

Server Manager is the CAST client application that provides a means to:

  • Install CAST server-side components (for example an Analysis Service) to a target server
  • Update CAST server-side components
  • Re-install CAST server-side components
  • Uninstall CAST server-side components - including dropping the database/schema hosting the components
  • Load the MetaModel from file

Install Database

This option is the starting point for all new installation operations. If you want to:

  • create a new Analysis Service
  • create a new Dashboard Service
  • create a new Management Service
  • create a new Measurement Service (CAST Storage Service 2 and above only)

Below are the parameters we have to give while creating a new connection

  • Select a connection profile
  • select the schema needs to be created

Below are the parameters we have to give while creating a new schema

  • Profile name
  • Server name
  • User name
  • Password
  • Run the installation

For more information, please refer Install CAST schemas in documentation and Server Manager ->Features ->Database /Schema Installation section in Help of Server Manager Tool

Update Database

This option enables you to:

  • Update the CAST server-side components on the selected database/schema to the current version if the Upgrade Status heading in the Server Browser contains Upgrades Available.

Steps to Update Database

  • Select the database/schema you want to work with.
  • Select Database/Schema Installation > Component Update from the menu bar.
  • If you are using an Oracle server, you may be prompted for the password associated to the user schema.

To know more about the same, refer:Upgrading CAST AIP in documentation and Server Manager ->Features ->Component Update section in Help of Server Manager Tool

To upgrade and migrate from versions higher than 7.0.18, please use Cast Upgrade Wizard and Cast Update Tool .To know more on the same, refer to :

Component Reinstall

This option enables you to:

  • Reinstall any server-side components already installed on the selected database/schema. The components will be reinstalled with the current versions of the components you have installed to the workstation. Note this option is only available if the Upgrade Status heading in the Server Browser contains Up To Date.

To access the option:

  1. Select the database/schema you want to work with.
  2. Select Database/Schema Installation > Component Reinstall from the menu bar.

To know more about the same, please refer:Upgrading CAST AIP  in documentation and Server Manager ->Features ->Component Reinstall section in Help of Server Manager Tool

For more information, refer to:

Load Metamodel

This option enables you to import a validated language package into the CAST Analysis Service for use with the CAST Universal Analyzer (see the CAST Universal Analyzer Framework Admin Guide for more information).

A language package consists of the following items (for example, for PHP):

  • Directory name > PHP
  • MetaModel name > PHPMetaModel.xml
  • LanguagePattern name > PHPLanguagePattern.xml

When imported into the Analysis Service, the language can be analyzed in the CAST Universal Analyzer

Remove Locks

This option enables you to remove any database locks created by CAST applications so that only one process can be carried out at any one time.

In general, the database locks created by CAST applications are removed after the accompanying process has successfully completed or when the application is closed. However, locks may sometimes remain in place following an application error or if the connection to the database server is lost. This option therefore enables you to clear these locks without having to restart the database server.

To access the option:

  1. Select the database/schema for which you want to Remove Locks:
  2. Click Database/Schema Installation > Troubleshooting > Remove Locks

Note:

  • Before using this option, please make sure that you check that no database process is currently active and that no applications are currently connected to the database server. If you use this option while processes are active or applications are connected to the database server, then errors will occur in the processes, usually accompanied by the message "could not unlock...".

Action Plan
  1. Select the pages that you are interested in
  2. If you are using an e-mail to login into your machine (something like first.second@hotmail.fr ) and have a crash with Server Manager, then the issue could be that your network login is not properly recognized. To remedy this, see the documentation for setting the option 'RegsterLogin=1' in the GloballySharedSettings.ini file and then upon starting server manager to enter your login as <domain>\<userid>. For CAST 8.2, the documentation for this option can be seen here: GloballySharedSettings.ini File
  3. If you encounter the below issue while launching Server Manager, go to Server Manager Component

If you encounter an error message Duplicated Package information: XXXX, while launching Server Manager, after deploying an official CAST UA and following the instructions to copy the UA files to the ProgramData area, refer to the page: Server Manager Component
  4. If you encounter an issue while connecting to Server Manager, an error is encountered which says:  "Invalid Profile:  Connection Failed" then refer Server Manager Component
  5. If you encounter an issue while loading the metamodel,
    1. Make sure your language package has been validated and saved using the UA Assistant
    2. Select the database/schema that hosts the Analysis Service
    3. On the toolbar, select Database/Schema Installation > Load MetaModel > From Disk
    4. CAST Server Manager will then import your language package automatically
    5. When completed, the Analysis Service will be updated with the new language package and you can use the Universal Analyzer to analyze your new language (it will be available in the Language Selection page). To know more about the same, refer:Server Manager ->Features ->Load Metamodel section in Help of Server Manager Tool
    6. To check if a customer metamodel has been fully loaded into the KB or CB, refer: Server Manager Component
  6. If you encounter an issue while loading the metamodel with CAST Storage Service and you attempt to use the Remove Locks option, CAST Server Manager will display the following dialog box to indicate which connections will be terminated.

Click Yes to terminate the sessions to proceed further.
  7. In case you face issues while using CUT, refer to CAST Update Tool Component CUT
  8. Please see the page in step 1 that best fits your issue for any further assistance, including the information requested for that operation when opening a ticket with Technical support.
