CAST Management Studio - Launching CAST MS

This page will help you solve problems while launching CAST MS.

You can launch CAST-MS by following the below wizard:

For 8.0.x : Start > All Programs > CAST 8.0.x > Click on CAST Management Studio

For 8.1.x : Start > All Programs > CAST 8.1.x > Click on CAST Management Studio

You can also launch CAST MS by navigating to the corresponding installation folder and launch CAST MS.

1. If CAST MS is not launching after having clicked on CAST Management Studio icone :
   1. Open the task manager
   2. Execute CAST Management Studio
   3. Check if a new Java process is running
   4. If no Java process is created :
      1. Use the ProcessMonitor.zip or the task manager  to get the command line being used (see the following for how to enable this functionality - display-command-line-windows-10-task-manager)
      2. Check the Path variable and make sure it is correct.  If the JAVA installation has problems, it may be using an incorrect %JAVA_HOME% environment variable so that java cannot be properly found.
         1. A sample command line for 8.3 for CAST-MS without any %JAVA_HOME% variables is the following:
            C:\Program Files\CAST\8.3\jre\bin\javaw.exe" -Dlaunch4j.exedir="C:\Program Files\CAST\8.3" -Dlaunch4j.exefile="C:\Program Files\CAST\8.3\CAST-MS.exe" -Denv.path="C:\Windows\system32;C:\Windows;C:\Windows\System32\Wbem;C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;"C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_75\bin;";C:\Program Files\CAST\8.3\jre\\bin" -jar "C:\Program Files\CAST\8.3\CAST-MS.exe" 
      3. If this does not help or the java process is only created briefly, then configure the process monitor to filter CAST-MS.exe process as below screenshot. To display the filter view, push CTRL + L
         
      4. Save and run CAST Management Studio.
      5. Provide the result of process monitor to CAST Technical Support
   5. If a Windows Update has been performed and if you have noticed the fact that CAST MS is not opening, reinstall the version of CAST AIP.
