Summary: information about how to update to the current release using ImagingSystemUpdate.exe.

Requirements

(tick)CAST Imaging installed

The target server must already have an existing installation of CAST Imaging installed on it.

(tick)Check supported update pathPlease check the update matrix to ensure that your update path is supported.
(tick)BackupCAST highly recommends performing a data backup before you start the upgrade process. When upgrading from ≤ 1.11 to ≥ 2.0, a backup is mandatory due to a data transformation process that is required for a new release of Neo4j.
(tick)Installation locationIt is not necessary for the existing installation to be installed in the default location (%PROGRAMFILES%\CAST\ImagingSystem) - the installer will locate the existing installation automatically.

Technical information

Updating an existing installation of CAST Imaging requires that you run the ImagingSystemUpdate.exe installer. This update installer will update the existing installation to the new version. With regard to Application data - all data that has already been imported into CAST Imaging will be retained and can be viewed in the newly updated CAST Imaging installation without any further action.

However, if you would like to use some new features introduced in the new release you will need to generate and import the Application data again (see below).

How to update

Step 1 - Run the setup

Running the update installer will automatically stop and start various CAST Imaging services and disrupt access for end-users, therefore please plan your update with this in mind!

Double click the ImagingSystemUpdate.exe installer as provided with the installation media. You may be prompted to allow the installation - click Yes:

The installation wizard will be displayed. Click Install to start the installation:

The installation will proceed:

On completion the following screen is displayed. Click Finish:

All services will have been restarted and you can use CAST Imaging. The Apps menu will be updated with the new release number:

Step 2 - Test access

Browse to the following URL to check if users can access CAST Imaging. You may wish to check that access is possible from an unrelated machine on the internal network. Ensure you specify the correct server (change "localhost") and port number (if necessary)

http://localhost:8083

Note that although the default port for CAST Imaging has been changed to 8083 in ≥ 2.0.0, the CAST Imaging updater will not change any user configuration settings, therefore whatever port you were using prior to the update will still be in use.

Step 3 - Generate and import the Application data (optional)

With regard to Application data - all data that has already been imported into CAST Imaging will be retained after running the ImagingSystemUpdate.exe installer and can be viewed in the newly updated CAST Imaging installation without any further action. However, if you would like to use some new features introduced in specific releases you will need to generate and import the Application data again using the tools provided with the current release.

When using ≥ 2.0.0, if you open an Application that requires updating, the following messages will be displayed:
