Launching a Dedicated Application

A dedicated application is an application which can specifically allow the modification and edition of an object's source code.

There are various ways to launch your Dedicated Application:

Tools menu

  1. First select an object in your Graphical View that you would like to modify by left-clicking on it once (a select box will appear around the object).

  2. Then click the Tools menu located and select Call Dedicated Application from the drop down menu.

This will automatically call the associated application (if you have this application installed).

If you are editing a server object, CAST's integrated IDE SQL-Builder will then automatically launch the object you selected and display the source code which you can modify and save in the Knowledge Base.

Double-click

Another way to call a Dedicated Application is to set the parameters to enable the dedicated application to be launched by double-clicking an object in the Graphical View

By default, however, this option is disabled and you need to launch the General Configuration dialog box to change the settings.

  1. Click the Tools Menu located on the toolbar and select Options... from the drop down menu.
  2. This will then launch the General Configuration dialog box.
  3. Select the Objects tab.
  4. Select the Double-click call dedicated Application option.
  5. Click OK to confirm the settings and close the dialog box.

If you now double-click on the object whose code you want to modify, you default editor for that specific object type will be opened enabling you to modify and edit the code contained within.

Right Click shortcut menu

  1. Select the object in the Graphical View.
  2. Right click to launch the shortcut menu.
  3. Then select Edit, Open or Call Dedicated Application as appropriate.

Notes

  • Launching a dedicated application in order to edit an object will automatically lock the object in the Knowledge Base for the duration of the process. This differs from setting a Permanent Lock on an object.
  • When client side projects are analyzed with CAST Products, the actual location of the files is identified and then stored in the Knowledge Base (along with other information). Depending on the setup used in your organization, the application may not be able to resolve the client file location using the information stored in the Knowledge Base (network location etc.). If this is the case, a warning message will be displayed. You can also define specific code location paths to workaround this issue. See Code Location Manager tab for more information.
